Sight words are words that frequently appear in most of the text people read BUT cannot easily be sounded out. The more a child sees and recognizes these sight words, the more confident they become in reading! Here is a list of the sight words that we have been working on since September. Pointing these words out as you or your child reads is important. You can also make flash cards and play games with sight words!

Raz Kids Reading Program
Raz Kids is a wonderful digital resource to make reading and writing fun for your kids! Follow the instructions sent home with your student. Login using the information provided on the card stapled to the inside of your student's communication book. We will be looking at Raz Kids as a class this week so hopefully the children will be familiar with it soon!

Organizational Ideas
Occasionally, we forget things! I understand that. I am a parent too and life gets very busy. However, if you want to help your child be organized and set them up for success, here are a few pointers.
1) What comes out of the backpack (mailbag, library book, reading folder) goes RIGHT back in when finished with it.
2) Have a basket by your exit door so it's easy access every morning.
3) If the students like to have their books at bedtime, have a school basket on a nightstand or beside the bed on the floor. Everything goes into the backpack each morning.
4) Keep our classroom calendar posted where the student can see it. Highlight things such as Library Day and look at that calendar each morning.
Setting your child up for success will benefit them in all of their years of schooling. Starting in Grade 1, it is an expectation to bring a school agenda daily.
