Empathy Students

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. This is exactly how we would describe Anna, a Senior Kindergarten student and Henry, a Junior Kindergarten student.  Both students are amazingly kind and empathetic to everyone in our class.  So proud of both of them.

Business Fair 2019

Business Fair!

On Tuesday, December 17th Nottawa’s Grade 8 students transform the gym into the coolest Business Fair!  During this festive fair, you can eat lunch and treats, play games, and buy crafty gifts for your family & friends.  Even more important, all proceeds go towards the Grade 8 trip to Toronto! One day, your student will be paying for their very own trip and you will be thankful for this fair!  Our class usually heads to the fair around 9:45 am and we spend approximately 45 minutes there. All parents /grandparents/friends are welcome. We also pair our Kindergarten students with an older student who helps them spend their money wisely.  This is of course 100% your choice IF you send your child with money. Please place all money in an envelope or bag with your child's name on it!! When my kids went to Nottawa, in Kindergarten, I would have given them $10.00 as a fair start! My kids ate lunch there so it was a win, win for me as a parent!!

Raz-Kids information for JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN students!

Here is the question I am asked most by parents:
“What can I do at home to help my child become a great student?”
READ READ READ READ
After begging and pleading, Nottawa Elementary has now bought every Kindergarten student a license to join Raz-Kids.  Raz-Kids is an online reading program that a student can participate independently or with a parent. The level of reading is selected by the teacher. The student may choose to do extra activities, such as answer questions, after reading/listening to a book. THIS IS FUN! Trust me.
Student job: Read/listen to books.  Participate!
Parent’s job: Encourage/Read to/Listen to your child read.
Teacher’s Job: Encourage at-home use and check in occasionally to move the student’s reading level higher!
How Do I Check It Out?
Step 1:  Go to www.kidsa-z.com
Step 2:  Enter the teacher’s username: rshaw24 (my name is being used for the SKs) Password: snard945
Step 3:  Login: first name, all lowercase i.e. isla
Step 4:  Password for boys: picture of a truck
Password for girls: picture of a bunny (except Isla V bec we have 2 JK Isla’s...your picture is a cat, which I’m sure you will love.

**PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CHECK IT OUT! I monitor this regularly and offer prizes!

What happens on a 'snow day'?

A snow day at Nottawa does happen occasionally!  This means that the school buses will NOT run for that day. IF the school was closed (which is very rare), the media stations and our school would clearly state that.  We have alot of bus students.  Parents have asked me to explain what we do on a snow day.  The students that come to school are pooled into a group with other Primary students (grade 1-3).  The teachers that are at school take turns doing activities with these students.
Questions:
Does my child have to come to school? It is your decision if you want to bring/drive your child.  We are working mommas too and know some of you must go to work. Come on in!If you choose to keep your child at home, please have a hot chocolate for us and go play in the snow!
Do I need to phone the office: Yes! Please phone safe arrival to inform Mrs. Beattie of their absence. Do not send me a Remind message because snow days are counted differently attendance-wise.
Food/Assembly/ Special Days on Snow days: Food days are moved to the next school day. All other theme/special days will be rescheduled.
